Different types of graphs you can create. Create different types of graphs in Illustrator Create graphs Select a graph tool. The Graph tool you use initially determines the type of graph Illustrator generates. For example, to create a column graph, select the Column Graph tool. However, you can easily change the type of graph later. For details, see Change graph type. To define the dimensions of the graph, do one of the following: Drag diagonally from the corner where you want the graph to begin to the opposite corner. Alt‑drag (Windows) or Option‑drag (macOS) to draw the graph from its center. Hold down Shift to constrain the graph to a square. Click where you want to create the graph. Enter a width and height for the graph, and click OK.Note: The dimensions you define are for the main body of the graph and do not encompass the graph’s labels and legend. Enter data for the graph in the Graph Data window. For more details, see Enter graph data. Graph data must be arranged in a specific order, which varies by graph type. Click the Apply button , or press the Enter key on the numeric keypad to create the graph. Apply the values you've entered in the Graph Data window The Graph Data window stays open until you close it. This allows you to easily switch between editing graph data and working on the artboard. Enter graph data Youuse the Graph Data window to enter the data for your graph. TheGraph Data window appears automatically when you use a graph tooland stays open until you close it. Any changes that you make to this graph window will be reflected in the linked graph object.Alternately:Right-click on the target window (layout or worksheet only) and choose Add Graph. Pick your source graph from the Graph Browser list and click OK. If the target window is a worksheet, this embeds the graph in the worksheet window (it is no longer a standalone graph window). When you double-click on the graph in the worksheet window, this pops up an editable graph window. Make your edits then click the Close button in the upper-right corner of the pop-up window to apply your edits.If the target window is a layout window, the pointer becomes a graph icon. Drag out a (resizeable) rectangle with the graph pointer and let go to add a linked graph object to the layout page. When double-clicked on, the source graph is brought forward for editing. Any changes that you make to this graph window will be reflected in the linked graph object.Copying and Pasting a Graph Layer as an Editable GraphNote that the graph page and the graph layer are distinct objects (see, Customizing Graph Layer Elements).To copy and paste a graph layer, including labels and data:Select the graph layer that you want to copy by clicking in an empty portion of the layer.From the main menu, choose Edit: Copy, right-click and choose Copy from the shortcut menu, or press CTRL + C. Click in the destination graph window. (Hint: The location at which you click becomes the upper-left corner of the pasted layer.)Choose Edit: Paste, right-click and choose Paste from the shortcut menu, or press CTRL + V. Behavior. Keyframes in Graph Editor mode may havedirection handles attached to one or both sides. Direction handlesare used to control Bezier interpolation. Youcan use the Separate Dimensions buttonat the bottom of the Graph Editor to separate the components ofa Position property into individual properties—X Position, Y Position,and (for 3D layers) Z Position—so that you can modify or animateeach independently. Specify which properties are shownin the Graph Editor Graph options in the Graph Editor Click the Graph Type And Options button atthe bottom of the Graph Editor to select from the following options: Auto-Select Graph Type Automatically selects the appropriate graph type for a property:speed graphs for spatial properties (such as Position), and valuegraphs for other properties. Edit Value Graph Displays the value graph for all properties. Edit Speed Graph Displays the speed graph for all properties. Show Reference Graph Displays the unselected graph type in the background forviewing only. (The gray numbers to the right of the Graph Editorindicate the values for the reference graph.) Show Audio Waveforms Displays the audio waveform for any layer that has at leastone property in the Graph Editor. Show Layer In/Out Points Displays In and Out points of all layers that have a propertyin the Graph Editor. In and Out points appear as curly braces. Show Layer Markers Displays layer markers in the Graph Editor, if they exist,for any layer that has at least one property in the Graph Editor.Layer markers appear as small triangles. Show Graph Tool Tips Toggles the graph tool tips on and off. Show Expression Editor Shows or hides the expression editor field. Allow Keyframes Between Frames Allows placement of keyframes between frames for fine-tuninganimation. Pan and zoom in the Graph Editor To activate the Hand tool momentarily when using another tool, press and hold the spacebar or the middle mouse button. You cannot pan or zoom vertically when Auto Zoom Height is selected. Auto Zoom Height Toggles Auto Zoom Height mode, which automatically scalesthe height of the graph so that it fits the height of the GraphEditor. The horizontal zoom must still be adjusted manually. The Graph tool displays single or multiple variables on a single graph. It is useful for getting the big picture of a number of variables, and for printing presentation-quality copies of your graphs. When invoked from the Workbench, the Graph tool allows only one variable per graph, although there can be multiple datasets and subscript values. Displaying multiple variables on a graph requires a Custom Graph, using the Define custom graph on invocation option (see below) or using the Graph tab of the Control Panel. You cannot do causal tracing with the Graph tool. Graph OptionsYou can customize a graph's style and printed output by changing the options on the Graph tool. Right-click or Control-click on the Graph tool to get the Graph Options dialog.Line Type (Linear Interp or Dots Only) display plots as lines or dots. •Linear Interpolation connects all the data points with lines. This is normally the easiest type of graph to understand quickly.•Dots Only displays each data point as a separate dot. This is useful for reviewing data.Graph Size (Small or Medium or Large or Full Screen or Custom) determines the initial size of the window created by the Graph tool. You can resize the Graph after it is displayed. •Small, Medium, Large, and Full Screen create successively larger windows.•Custom allows you to enter the initial size of the window created.
