Finally video and sound via HDMI ! There is something messed about this player though. When the audio is set to bitstream the multi channel icons do not light up while the movie is playing. So it is not telling me if the movie is 5.1 or 6.1 and the display's small pcm lights up. The receivers display will not tell me Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby True HD! If I change the audio to PCM then the display on the receiver says PCM 96K and the 5.1 symbols light up. If I got back to component video with the toslink digital then the audio is transcoded to DTS and the 5.1 logo lights up. I am going to seriouly think about buying another used HD-DVD player to replace this one and till then I will just use the component video and digital cable unless I get another cable and set it to PCM out! Once in a while I will turn on my Toshiba HD-A1 and watch a HD-DVD. Today I watched the original Superman The Motion Picture and it started stuttering and pausing. I checked the disc and it did it again, then I unplugged the power and reset it and it played past the area I had trouble then started doing it again. It will not send video out via HDMI and I am thinking about a few options.1. Just tossing the Superman HD-DVD disc.2. Tracking down a used HD-DVD player that is not a first generation player.3. Taking the Toshiba HD-A1 and all 69 HD-DVD titles and dropping them all in the trash.The problem is without the player there is no need to keep the movies and I might as well just trash the discs and slowly repurchase everything on Blu-ray disc. This player has had this same issue on and off the entire time I have owned it even with all the firmware updates.So does anyone still even use there HD-DVD player anymore? I mention this because if you have any Paramount or Universal discs in your HD-DVD collection you might want to consider spinning one of them to see if the problem is repeatable. You won't get rich (many discs will bring only a dime or a quarter), but you'll get something, and you'll keep them from going into a landfill. #6 of 125 I still use my Samsung HD player for Apollo 13 and The Sting because I am not happy with the blu-ray versions of those titles. However, when I watched The Sting recently to compare to the new blu-ray, it skipped a whole section of the movie, which it had never done before, and when I tried to put another disc in it was unresponsive and I had to unplug it and then it seemed to work normally. I checked the disc and it was not dirty, so that wasn't the problem. I only have about 10 HDs, and I have replaced all with the blu-ray versions (the Warner titles through the blu conversion program).
